Understanding Your Quota

Your monthly quota is the total number of words you can translate each month. Choosing the right subscription plan based on your needs is key to ensuring your website stays fully translated and up-to-date for your global audience.

How Word Count is Calculated

The total number of words deducted from your quota is determined by two simple factors:

  1. The number of words in your original site content.
  2. The number of languages you are translating your content into.

The formula is: (Number of Words) x (Number of Target Languages) = Total Quota Used

Example Calculation

Let’s say your website has 5,000 words of content, and you want to translate it into three languages (e.g., French, Spanish, and German).

The calculation would be: 5,000 words * 3 languages = 15,000 words

In this case, you would need a plan with a quota of at least 15,000 words to translate your entire site.

Your Monthly Quota Cycle

Your full translation quota is allocated at the beginning of your billing cycle each month. Any unused quota does not roll over to the next month.

What if I exceed my quota?

If you exceed your monthly quota, automatic translation for new or updated content will be paused until your quota renews at the start of your next billing cycle.

Here’s what that means for your website visitors:

  • Existing Translations: All content that has already been translated will continue to be served correctly. Your visitors will still see the translated versions of these pages.
  • New or Updated Content: Any text that has not been translated before your quota was reached will be served in its original language.

You will be notified via the dashboard when you are approaching your limit. To avoid any untranslated content being shown to your visitors, you can upgrade your plan at any time.

What Counts as a “Word”?

SwiftLingo counts all text-based content on your website that is processed for translation. This includes:

  • Visible Content: Paragraphs, headings, button text, navigation menus, and footer text.
  • Invisible Content (for SEO): Meta titles, meta descriptions, and image alt text.
  • Dynamic Content: Content generated by scripts or loaded from a database.

Essentially, if it’s text that can be translated, it will count towards your quota.

How to Monitor Your Quota

You can easily track your current quota usage directly from your SwiftLingo dashboard. The dashboard provides a real-time overview of how many words you’ve used and how many you have remaining for the current billing cycle.
